Composting & Expanded Recycling is Happening at all Eanes ISD schools.
After Spring Break 2014, new Compost cans began appearing in all our cafeterias to collect food waste (Meat, Dairy, & Veggies) as well as paper plates, cups or napkins. These will go to our new compost dumpster located next to our Recycling dumpster and be collected by our trash vendor.
We have gone to each campus for training on what goes in Compost, Recycle, or Landfill cans. If you want more training or posters let us know.
For more info check out the powerpoint below.

Not just Earth Day but Earth Week
Barton Creek and Valley View Elem both celebrated Earth Day 2013 by having an Earth Week of activities.
Check out the BCE Goes Green website. http://bcegreenpage.weebly.com/earth-week-2013.html

Two-book Tuesday: This has a double impact! Drop off gently used books that will be donated to Open Arms AND Refugee Services of Texas. * Open Arms also needs large groups of colors in t-shirts, like overrun from events, but no need for individual t-shirts.
Waste-not Wednesday: - Plastic Bags Collection!! HEB will also donate $150 HEB Gift Card to the class with the most bags.
Turn it off-Thursday: All classrooms will pledge to turn off all lights and electronics for 1 hour today. There will also be a Paper Bag decoration contest. One bag from each class will be displayed at HEB Westlake.
Green Day Friday - Go Green Spirit day!
Shred-It Saturday - Shred Day - Clean out your office! Get ready for Shred Day on Saturday, April 20th. Certified Shred will be at BCE to shred all of your personal documents on site - for FREE! All paper is pulverized on site and will be recycled.

Valley View Elementary -
New Green Team & Go Green Day Jan 18th
This year Valley View has started a new Green Team. On Jan 18th they had a Go Green Day where everyone was encouraged to wear Green to raise awareness for the environment. They had a assembly to talk about what the students learned about recycling, conserving energy and helping the environment. The whole school sang a song they wrote about conservation and the school mascot showed a awesome video of how he likes to help the environment.
New LED Exterior Lights
All schools have new LED exterior lighting. These are more enegy efficient and actually brighter. They also seem to provide a cleaner less yellow light. Funded by Bond and over $100,000 in Energy Rebates.
Forest Trail Elementary - Green Team Posters
The leaders of the Green Team at FTE are also part of the local Girl Scout Troop. In Spring 2012, they explored ways to reduce energy waste & help the environment. They created Green Suggestion Boxes to put around school for people to submit their ideas to help the environment. This October they presented some of their ideas at the school assembly. See photos below.
Barton Creek Elementary - 2012 Good Sports Always Recycle Winner
Barton Creek wins $500 for their campus conservation and recycling program. Awarded by Keep Austin Beautiful.
New Gym Lighting: District-wide
_All of our schools have gotten new more energy efficient and
brighter gym lighting. Using Bond funds & Energy Rebates during the summer of 2012 this brings all our gyms up
to the recommended competition level of bright even lighting. They also have occupancy sensors to automatically turn off when the gym is empty. Took out 400watt HID metal halide lights which are not as bright and take a few minutes to turn on fully. Replaced with 308 watt T5 lights.
See the BEFORE & AFTER photos below of Hill Country Middle School's gym.
